Una rivolta. Orizzonti e confini del Nord-Est

by Prevedello, Enrico
Una rivolta. Orizzonti e confini del Nord-Est

‘Have you heard about Luciano? He shot the banker from Campodarsego’. This is how Enrico Prevedello finds out that his best friend Arturo’s father has ended up in jail after a crazy act. Luciano Franceschi is a small businessman who lives in Borgoricco, in the productive province of Padua: his family runs the cheese factory of the same name, a pig farm and a shop in the heart of the town. He is the typical hard worker of the Veneto region, and is very aware of the history of his land. What’s more, he’s an independentist, a friend of the ‘most serene’ who in 1997 invaded St Mark’s Square in an improbable home-made tank. When his company, like many others, was hit hard by the crisis in 2008, Luciano tried to convince the director of the bank of which he was a member to grant him a loan that had been refused up to that point. He left the house carrying a gun. He only wanted to intimidate the director, but then a shot was fired. For years, Prevedello followed this story, both as a personal obsession and as a prism through which to interpret the history of the place where he was born, even if in a distorted way. The result of long conversations with Luciano and his family, and of a journey back in time through the history of the independence movements in Northern Italy, ‘Una rivolta’ is a powerful, inexorable, ‘truthful novel’.
