A girl’s path in her efforts to accept her own identity and to be accepted. The story of a difficult love.

Giulia was the perfect child: intelligent and good at everything. Her parents considered her strong and independent, so much as to place her bedroom in the most remote part of the house: upstairs, where everything creaked, and where the canaries were once kept. But when Giulia is in that room, a gloomy unhappiness overcomes her.

An encounter with Adele, a high school teacher who “inhabits space like morning light peering through blinds”, will change everything. It will bring the real Giulia back to life, with all the courage needed to keep a bond that her provincial world considers wrong. Adele can but surrender herself to Giulia’s invincible passion, and all her resistance fails in the face of this immense love, which can only be freed once high school is over for Giulia. And then Giulia and Adele will have to confront the passing of time.
