La mia isola è Las Vegas

by Consolo Vincenzo
La mia isola è Las Vegas

Like his masters Vittorini and Sciascia, Consolo dedicated himself to a tireless militant activity, in newspapers and periodicals. This volume gathers together fifty-two short writings, including some precious unpublished ones, short stories – as the author defined them – that cover a span of more than fifty years, retracing his itinerary as a writer and touching on all the themes dearest to him. As in a fascinating parade, vivid pictures of his childhood in Sicily and youth in Milan follow one another, ironic or ferocious portraits of Italian society and the cultural world; journeys through the history, landscape, and art of a Sicily loved with painful awareness; precise, sharp interventions on our time, testifying to a passionate civil commitment. Readers of Consolo will find pages that are surprising for their freshness and immediacy and texts that shed new light on his masterpieces. Those approaching Consolo for the first time will discover his language rich in history and flavour and the musical rhythm of his prose, his ability to recount Italian society through the lens of a day like any other…
