Appena in tempo
by Giordano Emanuela
Natalia, a 60-year-old teacher, divorced and childless, and Franco, a musician ten years her senior, meet by chance on a train. They observe and study one another, timidly playing at seduction. Though they don’t say a word, when Natalia gets home and picks up the novel she was reading on her trip she finds his telephone number. After finally making up her mind to call him, they discover they share a multitude of curiosities, passions and tastes, but when he proposes they spend a weekend together, she’s gripped by panic. Everything goes well, however, and their unforeseen friendship is transformed into love. Natalia lowers her defenses, finally letting herself go, but just a few weeks later she finds out that Franco has been living with a girlfriend for the last twenty years. Disappointed and embittered, Natalia would like to disappear, but her rival asks to meet, and the situation is turned on its head. Two women battling it out over a man? Sure, that’s the cliché. But then there’s real life, which is both more complex and more entertaining.
