Una come noi. L’omicidio di Germana Stefanini e l’abisso della lotta armata

by Bianconi, Giovanni
Una come noi. L’omicidio di Germana Stefanini e l’abisso della lotta armata

On January 28, 1983, Germana Stefanini, a prison guard at the Rebibbia prison in Rome, was kidnapped and shot in the back of the neck by the terrorist organization “Armed Proletarian Power” following a sham trial staged by a “revolutionary tribunal.” Her body was found that same evening in the trunk of a Fiat 131, while later the police recovered audio cassettes on which her killers had recorded the interrogation she had been subjected to. Germana was 56 years old and lived with her brother Carlo in an apartment in the eastern outskirts of the capital. In 2007, she was posthumously awarded a gold medal for civil merit, and in 2012, the municipal council of Rome named a street after her in the northern part of the city, a wealthy suburban area surrounded by greenery and sports clubs, with football, tennis, and now even padel courts. “I wonder if Germana would have liked it,” asks Giovanni Bianconi, who in these gripping pages retraces the dramatic story of the only woman killed by the Red Terror in Italy, one of the lesser-known chapters of the armed struggle that bled our country for years.
