Giustizia e conflitti internazionali. Riflessioni a partire da Ucraina, Israele e Gaza

The current, ever-complex and never fully consolidated relationship between justice and war is the common thread running through the contributions in these pages, provided by legal scholars, historians, magistrates, diplomats, and journalists. On the one hand, in Russia’s aggression against Ukraine, justice has demonstrated an ability to intervene with unprecedented speed and methods. On the other, in the war in Palestine, it has struggled to assert itself despite violations of international humanitarian law-first with Hamas’s atrocities on October 7, 2023, and then with Israel’s devastating response against Gaza. Starting from the events unfolding in Eastern Europe and the Middle East, this volume explores many issues: the historical roots of both conflicts, the role of international courts alongside national jurisdictions, the renewed relevance of the 1948 Genocide Convention, the impact of information and disinformation, the effects of war on the rule of law in the countries involved, and the future of prosecuting international crimes. The aim is to provide knowledge and reflection on the violence of the conflicts that are shaking the world.
