Tra terre amare. Undici traversate più due
by Ibrahim, Kasem Mohamed
From a “denied” childhood spent in Om Saleh, in the Nile Delta, to the hardships of reaching Europe, driven by a single goal: becoming an Italian. From the other shore, everything seemed simple, but as soon as Kasem decided to leave, troubles began-difficulties, exploitation, clandestinity, and poverty. Eleven crossings of the Mediterranean measured his determination; a fourteen-meter fall while working illegally on a construction site put his body and very life at risk; imprisonment for non-existent crimes and bureaucratic errors threatened his spirit and seemed to undermine all his efforts. Until a turning point-sought after but, as always, seemingly random-allowed him to stay afloat and gradually climb back up, building a professional and family life rooted in mixed cultures, with an Italian partner and the children they would have together: future citizens of the world.
