Over the last few decades, the overall picture of the areas and methods of intervention of Clinical Psychology has changed greatly, since numerous new discoveries coming from Neurology, Pharmacology and various human sciences, and in particular from Philosophy, have contributed to the birth of new interpretative models of the biological bases of psychic processes, and even these new contributions and models have now been taken as unavoidable references for new concrete applications. This book, a manual of Clinical Psychology based on Psychobiology, aims to be something more and different than what already exists in this regard, both for the accessibility of the language – which refers to various areas of concrete intervention – and because it is based on the Author’s long professional experience as a Psychologist and Psychotherapist. Psychobiology, as an extremely current and shared field of integration, now appears to be absolutely central in every area of contemporary Clinical Psychology, as an in-depth knowledge of behavior and cognitive and affective processes can no longer ignore in any way not only the biological components, from the neuroanatomical structures and functional mechanisms of the brain, but also from the complex of physical and human relationships that every living organism creates and maintains with the environment that surrounds it. This manual, in particular, intends to explore its specific applications in the fields of sexual behavior and gender identity disorders, pathological addictions and eating disorders. It is therefore a text capable of providing, according to a model based on an overall vision of human beings in their constant interaction with the environment in which they express their behavior and personality, a large amount of indispensable information for those who intend acquire adequate professional training in the psychological care of people.
