Dalla stessa parte mi troverai
by Mira Valentina
This story begins one winter evening, 7 January 1978. In front of a Movimento sociale headquarters in Rome’s Appio Latino district, two right-wing activists are shot dead. From that moment, the dead of Acca Larentia became untouchable icons of Italian neo-fascism. This story began again on 30 April 1987, when Mario Scrocca, an extreme left-wing militant, was arrested. According to investigators, Scrocca was part of the commando that struck at Acca Larentia. He was found dead 24 hours later, hanged in a cell at Regina Coeli. But too many things do not add up… This never-ending story begins again – once more – one June afternoon in 2021. Two women meet under the sky of Rome. Rossella is sixty years old and the widow of Mario Scrocca. Valentina is in her thirties, grew up near Acca Larentia, in the past she frequented neo-fascists and bears the scars of those acquaintances. Dalla stessa parte mi troverai is the story of a love lived to the full in the days when everything was still possible and of a life broken at the time of collective disenchantment before being consigned to oblivion. With a rigour that admits no discounts, Valentina Mira sheds light on the obscene victimhood of the executioners, demolishing rhetoric, alibis, and myths of that right wing that has taken over Italy.
