Una storia gotica
by Galiffa Chiara
A Gothic novel with dark Victorian atmospheres, written by a very young author, a revelation of the Opera Prima competition. It is the fear of diversity and otherness that, in A Gothic Story, becomes the justification for a crazy feeling of justice. Meredith Stevens, a young aristocrat from London, flees from materialism and her aristocratic roots, while George, the servant, premeditates to punish her for her choice not to conform to the schemes. Meredith, finding no peace in the gilded cage of hypocritical Victorian society, takes refuge in a parallel world. Her period of isolation is an evolutionary path, which leads her to develop full comfort with her new and unconventional vision of reality, despite the vivid disagreement of George, her servant. The latter, in fact, firm in his immovable faith in reason, is unable to see what for Meredith is well manifest, nor does he seem inclined to accept the diversity of others. A seemingly irremediable contrast ensues: while she finds balance in delirium, he finds delirium in balance. All that remains is to ask: which of the two is the damned?

Galiffa Chiara
Chiara Galiffa‘s interest in writing has always been alive and constant. She has always had a great passion for the horrid and the macabre: the classics of Gothic literature, a fascination for esotericism and a marked attraction to stories with a 19th-century flavour have all contributed to defining her current writing style. With Una storia gotica, he combined fantasy with an exceptional mastery of suspense and language.
