Il mondo di Woody
by Escobar Roberto, Escobar Roberto
Born in Brooklyn on December 1, 1935, not too far from Coney Island and amusement park roller coasters, Allan Stewart Königsberg changed his name at age 17 to Heywood Allen, who soon became Woody Allen. Through 2019 he has written and made, and often starred in, forty-eight films for the big screen, from What Do You Do, Steal? to A Rainy Day in New York, and one for television. A new film, Rifkin’s Festival, is in postproduction. He apparently plays clarinet every Monday with his New Orleans Jazz Band at Café Carlyle in Manhattan. Much loved, especially in Europe, and much hated, especially in the U.S. He was and is a great comedian, and like every great comedian he was and is a great tragedian. As he would say, not without irony, Allan Stewart Königsberg aka Woody Allen is an author and a man with a huge worldview. Written not about his cinema, but in his films and with his characters, these pages seek to tell that story.
